(1.) Why You Should Be On Social Media
There’s no question that social media has took over as the most used channel system to talk, discuss, engage, connect and buy. This equals MASSIVE OPPORTUNITY for you and your business.
It doesn’t matter what industry your business is in, you need to be on social media.
Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Pinterest and YouTube are 6 of the most used platforms in the world. All of them are channels your business can use to get customers.
Social media gives you a quick simple way to engage fans, followers, current customers and potential customers. If you’re not on social media, get on it now. Seriously, it’s that important, get your social media profiles built, approved and use the strategies I talk about in this guide to start engaging your audience.
(2.) How To Take Full Advantage Of Social Media
There’s a lot of ways social media can help you grow your business and build influence. One of the keys I have found involves “testing.” Let me explain.
Social media allows you to promote content. Think about it, we can promote blogs, landing pages, webinars, seminars, videos, images and many other forms of content. You can grow your business by sharing your content.
It’s important to note that you shouldn’t just share anything, you need content with “value.” By value, I mean content that others find useful.
The social media marketing guide you’re now reading is high quality content. I wanted it to give you value and help you grow your own business. While your content doesn’t have to be this long or informative, it needs to be valuable to your readers.
You always have to think about your readers. On RichardHale.Org, I want all my readers to find value in every piece of content published. Everything you share on social media should give your readers value. Don’t forget that.
The key of using social media marketing to grow your business is simple, you have to get out there and create your profiles. You must connect and engage with your fans and followers. If you visit a Facebook page and you ask a question, you expect to get an answer back, right?
Every business needs customers to grow, ALWAYS be there for them. Social media allows you to connect with your fans and it allows you to use such platforms to grow your influence, trust and brand.
(3.) Where Do I Start?
With so many social platforms growing, it can be tough to choose where to start. What you’ll find is that most of you already have social media accounts. While some of you may not have a business page or profile up, most of you will have personal accounts there, especially on Facebook.
While I’ll recommend Facebook to you all, some social sites may not be for your business. That’s up to you to find out. You can test to see what works and what doesn’t. You have to test or you won’t know the results. We test so we can make improvements in our business, don’t forget that. Testing is extremely important.
What social media platforms do you use the most? The reason I ask is because all of us have preferences. I prefer Facebook and Instagram. I find that it connects me with the right types of customers I need for my consulting business. It doesn’t mean those platforms will work for you, go out, create your accounts and run test to find out what works for your business.
The most popular social media platforms include;
(4.) Facebook Marketing
Facebook is the top social media platform and no other social platform comes close. Facebook has over 1 billion users, the opportunity to grow your business there is very high.
You can use Facebook marketing to reach traffic organically or you can use Facebook’s paid ads for traffic.
With Facebook, you can use your personal account, business pages and Facebook groups. It’s a powerful stage to grow your business. Business pages and open/closed groups allow you to engage your customers like no other social platform in the world.
If you’re branding yourself, I suggest you build a Public Figure page. In your personal account, the left hand menu will show you the pages you own and the groups you’re involved in. From that same menu, you can groups, ads, events, pages and other options.
Benefits Of Using Facebook To Grow Your Business
- Facebook has the largest social media platform.
- Facebook has the most users and active users.
- Facebook continues to expand their features and grow.
- Facebook isn’t going anywhere, it will be a long-sustained company.
- Facebook is easy to use and nearly everyone is on it.
- Facebook users spend hours every day on the platform.
(5.) Twitter Marketing
Twitter is another popular social media community. Twitter can be a little tricky since you only get 140 characters to make a post, also called a “tweet.”
Personally, I use Twitter to connect with other influencers in my industry. That’s not to say you can’t use it to grow your business. I just find it as an easy way to connect with like-minded users.
Building relationships and friends is very important. You can grow a business alone, but you need genuine relationships to go next level.
One of the biggest mistakes I made in my career was viewing others as competition to my business. I was young and foolish. While I’ve grew a successful business to 6 figures and it’s projecting to hit over a million sales in 2017, I could of hit these numbers quicker by making meaningful relationships. Don’t make that same mistake.
Benefits Of Using Twitter To Grow Your Business
- Twitter is a great platform to connect with industry leaders.
- Twitter has added some great features as of late.
- Twitter can help you easily engage customers.
- Twitter is easy to use and supports analytics for testing.
(6.) Instagram Marketing
I’m a big fan of Instagram and the social community has improved a lot. That’s likely because Facebook now owns it, but Instagram is a great platform to grow your business.
At the moment, Instagram’s algorithm is great and allows you to good reach for organic post. This will likely change in the future, but you likely still have time to take advantage of their friendly search engine.
Instagram is only for mobile, although tools and software have been made to access the social media giant via a desktop computer.
For those of you that can take great pictures, this can be the perfect platform to reach out to potential customers and build a following.
Benefits Of Using Instagram To Grow Your Business
- Instagram is simple to use.
- Instagram reaches a mobile audience.
- Instagram gets good organic traffiic.
- Instagram allows both images and video.
- Instagram has built in features that allow you to edit photos.
(7.) LinkedIn Marketing
LinkedIn is the largest social platform for business professionals and the perfect platform to grow your business, especially those of you targeting business professionals.
Like Facebook, LinkedIn has did a great job adding new features for you to use to build your business.
If you operate your business in the B2B space, LinkedIn is a must to join. I like that the platform allows you to post articles, this is a newer feature. We all know and understand the importance of reputation online and social proof. Other LinkedIn users can endorse you, these are shown on your profile.
Within your profile, you can list current and past jobs, experience, education and much more. You can also build a page for your business.
While LinkedIn won’t work for everyone, it’s the top social community for those of you in the business space.
Benefits Of Using LinkedIn To Grow Your Business
- LinkedIn is the largest social platform for the B2B space.
- LinkedIn allows you to publish content and share content.
- LinkedIn is a great platform to connect with business-minded users.
- LinkedIn users can endorse you to grow your trust and reputation online.
- LinkedIn is easy to use and learn.
(8.) Google+ Marketing
Google is best known as being the lead search engine of the world, but it also has a strong social community that can help your business.
It’s well documented that Google+ can benefit your SEO efforts. Content that is published on Google+ allows you to vote for content, using the (+) sign. As for social media signals being used for SEO purposes, it’s thought that plus sign votes can help you SEO efforts.
Google+ is unique because you can start groups or you can join already established communities. You can pretty much find anything that you need (in terms of communities in your industry).
I’ve never seen mass traffic from Google+. I do feel the engagement and interaction on your content there can influence SEO to an extent. It’s not a high valued SEO technique by any imagination. SEO stands for search engine optimization, the process of following strategies to rank high on Google.
Benefits Of Using Google+ To Grow Your Business
- Google+ has a lot of users, right up there behind Facebook.
- Google+ can have a minor impact on your SEO rankings.
- Google+ allows you to build your own communities.
- Google+ is simple to use, easy to navigate and easy to learn.
(9.) Why Do Businesses Fail With Social Media
How many of you are guilty for not having a social media plan? How many of you are inconsistent with your social media content? If you’re not getting results and you’ve been trying to grow your social profiles for months, I want you to stop and think with me. If this is you, it’s time to change your way of thinking.
If you’re not getting results, it’s time to try something new.
Why do so many businesses fail on social media?
- They don’t provide VALUE to readers.
- They try to sell their readers.
- Fail to use visually appealing photos, graphs, charts.
- No consistency with publishing content.
- Post a high percentage of content asking readers to buy.
Social Media Examiner gives us a great example on how we can publish content that gives readers value.
(10.) Give Your Readers Value
This is so important, your followers, fans and customers need valuable content they enjoy engaging with.
You can use different forms of content to accomplish this, remember to test each one to see which your visitors respond best to.
Boring doesn’t work nor will it get engagement. You need engagement on your post so it will be found by more people.
In the example above, Social Media Examiner engages their readers by asking questions. They have a beautiful visual image for their post and they’re giving readers the opportunity to get the social media industry report. The page leads to a landing page where they collect a name and email. This is a great example of giving value and getting value back by building their email list.
If you’re not sure what to post, take the time to search popular pages to see how they are providing value to their readers. You can learn a lot this way, even from your competition. While you can’t get the analytics on post, you can see how many likes and shares the post has.
You can use awesome tools like Ahrefs to find popular content for any keyword.
The above example is using Ahrefs software, which I highly recommend for SEO and Competition analysis.
With their tool, we can search any keyword and find the most popular content for that keyword, a very powerful tool.
This will help you get a general idea of what types of content are getting the most engagement and backlinks.
(11.) Engagement Is The Key To Social Media
If I’m asked to give one main priority for social media marketing, I’d have to answer with building engagement and conversation. After all, isn’t that the point of social media?
The pipeline of your business, from start to finish, it’s all about conversation. engagement and understanding. Connecting with your target audience is crucial for the growth of your business and the growth of your social media engagement.
But how can you use engagement to fuel your business?
For starters, it begins with publishing content that sparks conversation.
This is why boring content always fails. It has to be content that creates engagement and interest from the community. That can be said for all social media platforms, the conversation needs to be there.
Try sharing content types such as;
- Graphic Design
- Asking the audience a question
- Asking the audience for input
- Helps the end user
- Packed with high value for readers
(12.) Consistency Plays A Big Role In Social Growth
If you think that consistency doesn’t play a big role in growing your social media channels, think again.
Your followers, fans and customers will expect content and it needs to be on a consistent basis.
I recommend posting to your social media platforms daily and at consistent times. It’s ok to experiment, but once you test and find the best times to publish content, stick to the schedule.
See, your followers look to find when you publish content so they can read it. If you’re posting 2-3 one day and not posting another until the week after, you can run loyal fans away.
Take the time to make a content schedule. You can use social media management tools to schedule for content to be published, such as Hootsuite or Buffer will work.
(13.) Publish, Test, Optimize And Repeat
This is a great 4 step strategy to ensuring your social media marketing efforts are fully optimized.
This strategy ensures that you’re always going to optimize your campaigns to the fullest.
Don’t just post to post, make sure every content piece has a purpose.
Publishing Your Social Content
You want to experiment publishing your social media content so you can see yourself what works and what doesn’t. Key point, in the early stages of your social channels, just because a content piece doesn’t do good does not mean you shouldn’t use it later.
Rather, document what you’re publishing and the results. Use a spreadsheet. Pay attention to the engagement, such as likes, shares, tweets, plus ones and so on.
Early on, it’s important to do your best to strike conversation, so make sure your content does that.
As you’re publishing your social media content, don’t be afraid to test different techniques and strategies.
Every market and industry reacts differently and engagement is going to be low if you don’t have the social reach early. However, as you grow and gain more data, it will allow you to optimize your social communities.
Optimizing Your Social Media Content
As you’re publishing content and getting results back, the data acquired can be used to optimize your social channels for better performance.
Find out which post were popular and think about how you can improve it.
Try different #hashtags with your post, try using different keywords in your content. See which images work best and which do not. Everything you do can be tested.
Repeat, Repeat, Repeat
Your goal for this 4 step strategy is finding content that works and optimizing the performance of that content.
Everything should be a test.
When I grew Hale Web Development, what helped me the most was when I started running experiments and test. It can do the same for your business, that goes for social media and pretty much everything else.
(14.) Utilizing Data To Grow Your Business Via Social Media
Remember what I said earlier, not every social media community will be right for your business. Learning what data points to use for social media marketing can help you save time, money, effort and give you better results.
Marketing Land shows us the different age groups of popular social channels such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram and other popular outlets. Why is this important? Of course, if your business is targeting specific age groups via social media, you need this data.
There’s many data points to consider in your social media marketing, such as
- Geographical Location
- Household Size
- Devices Used
Data helps us pinpoint our marketing efforts, no matter what marketing strategy we’re using.
(15.) Paid Social Media Ads VS Organic Growth
What I have discussed to this point has been focused around organic social media growth, free advertising to an extent.
Organic traffic would refer to getting natural traffic from a specific social media platform without paying ads.
Each major social media platform differs when it comes to organic traffic. Each has specific algorithms and they greatly differ from one platform to the next.
Due to this, it’s tough to judge what you can expect for social media marketing. As you grow your channels and become more sustainable, then you can do accurate projections.
While each social giant has benefits, it’s Facebook that leads the paid advertising among social leaders and no other platform comes close. I mean that, Facebook is the crown jewel.
The biggest different between organic and paid traffic on Facebook is the fact that paid traffic is much more targeted and reaches a lot more people. Now, if you have established social media accounts, you can have a large organic reach. If you’re just starting out, paid ads are always the best route.
(16.) Paid Social Media Ads
With Facebook, you can reach your target audience with precision.
I’ve seen huge success running Facebook ads for my clients and it’s amazing what kind of results you can see.
Does every business need a Facebook marketing budget? Absolutely and I’ve seen it change lives. I’ve seen businesses making a few thousand a month soar to upward of $50K a month and more.
There’s several social platforms that offer paid advertising, I recommend Facebook because their advertising is second to none.
If you want to learn more about how I can grow your business through Facebook and social media, be sure to contact our team.

Sales funnels that are correctly designed increase leads, prospects and eventually conversions, which is the end goal for those that promote it. It has been dubbed a “sales funnel” for a reason. On one side, you have a big opening, this is where new leads enter the pipeline. As you move toward the end of the sales funnel, it gets smaller and this is where you turn leads into potential prospects. We nurture them through the pipeline, all the way to the bottom where we then convert them into a paying customer.
But what you need to know, “how can you grow your business with a sales funnel?”
This is where I can help you with your business.
Sales Funnel: Making Selling Easy
In this article, I will discuss;
- What Is A Sales Funnel
- How The Sales Funnel Works
- 6 Stages Of The Buying Process
- What You Can Do With A Sales Funnel
- How To Build A Basic Sales Funnel
- How To Use Sales Funnels To Grow Your Business
What Is A Sales Funnel?
A sales funnel is a marketing system that has been around for a long time. Businesses have been using them for decades. Perhaps created before its time, sales funnels are greatly used in online marketing systems to gain leads, prospects and eventually turn conversions.
Sales funnels are used to create customers. Very brilliant concept here. The question for you, “how many potential customers are you losing because you don’t have a sales funnel in place?”
That’s a scary thought for any business and the main reason you need a sales funnel in place. Funnels can be utilized to target your customers at different stages of the buying process.
How The Sales Funnel Works
So we know a sales funnel is a marketing system used to create customers. But how do we create customers?
There’s 3 types of people you’ll engage with during the sales funnel.
- Leads – This is when someone becomes aware of your product, service or brand.
- Prospects/Qualified Leads – Both represent a lead or prospect that has met specific requirements to move down the funnel.
- Customer – We all know what this is, anyone that has completed a purchase
Everyone enters the sales funnel at the top.
There’s a wide range of marketing strategies used to bring traffic into your funnel. These could be;
- Search Engine Marketing – This refers to paid traffic via search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing.
- Search Engine Optimization – Targeting specific keywords to utilize organic search engine traffic.
- Social Media Marketing – Using social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+ and others.
- Paid Traffic – Using display advertising on websites, any type of website may be considered if the audience is right.
- Video Marketing – Using YouTube and other video platforms to connect with potential customers.
- Facebook Advertising – Paying for ad space on Facebook, a common traffic source for many funnels.
Knowing where customers are during the buying process is important. I use 6 stages, you’ll see others use less, some use more.
The end goal is still the same. As you track customers down your sales funnel, it’s important to know what stage the customer is at so you can target them with specific strategies based on their journey.
For example, when we use our marketing strategies above, this is the Awareness Stage. When they give you an email and name, this becomes the Consideration Stage. And as they go down the pipeline, they go through each stage.
When you know where your customers are, you can better serve them by sending offers based on what stage they exist in.
6 Stages Of The Buying Process
There’s 6 stages you need to be aware of during the buying process.
- Awareness – This is when you hear about a product, service or brand. You see an add, see someone talking about it, you come across them through search, social media.
- Consideration – This stage, you’re aware of the service, product or offer. You’re now considering buying, not exactly sure but you debate how it can help you, better your life.
- Preference – When you prefer a certain service, product, You’ve did your research, you know what you’d get and you’re find reasoning to buy something specific over others.
- Purchase – By this stage, you’ve weighed everything out. You want this item, service, offer, what ever it may be. You’re now a paying customer.
- Loyalty – When a customer becomes loyal to the brand, happy with the product, service they’re receiving. Which leads them to the final buying process.
- Advocacy – At this stage, you become an advocate for the brand or product. Your experience was great, you tell your friends, family, anyone who will listen.
*Richard’s Advice – Think about your most recent payment for a service or product. Was your buying process similar to mine?
The Amazing Things You Can Do With A Sales Funnel
It’s amazing what you can do with a correctly optimized sales funnel. But what if you can’t build landing pages? List builder pages and email automation?
What if you can build it but don’t have the time? What if there was a way you can build sales funnels in 10 minutes, wouldn’t that be cool? It helps a lot. This is where my friend Russel Brunson can help.
Russel is the Founder of ClickFunnels, the BEST sales funnel software on the market. His sales funnel software makes everything simple and it has saved me hours upon hours. No joke, this is the real deal, I use it all the time and it changed my businesses. I know it can change yours too.
Now that you know what a sales funnel is and how it works, I know you’re excited to get started. However, if you don’t know how to build it, it’s going to cost you money, time and effort.
Your Basic Sales Funnel
To begin to understand the layout of a sales funnel, let’s take a look at a basic sales funnel design.
Step One – Your basic sales funnel will start with a Landing Page or Squeeze Page. Both are often referenced as the same. This page is where you collect a name and email. It allows you to start building a relationship with the lead. Makes sense, right?
If a customer doesn’t know you, they likely won’t buy. You need to begin the process of building that relationship. That’s the first step of the sales funnel. Remember, by this time, the customer is aware of your product or service, this is why they signed up.
Step Two – Once you have the email, you can then send the customer to a strong sales page. This page should be neat and organized with one clear Call-To-Action (CTA). In theory, you could have another CTA, but one CTA is usually the right solution.
Step Three – Once a customer buys your product or service, you can then take them to an Order Confirmation page. Here, you can use UpSells to get the customer to puchase more.
Step Four – Once they confirm their order, you can then take them to a Download page or a Thank You page. Again, this can be a page where UpSells are tried.
Custom Sales Funnels
It’s important for me to explain, no sales funnel is written in stone. You can customize your sales funnel as needed to better serve your business.
Custom sales funnels can be as short or as complicated as you want them to be. This is why I test different funnels, which can be hard if you don’t have the right tools.
The whole process of sales funnels can sound like a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be. What you need is the sales funnel software I have for you below.
Growing Sales And Conversions With ClickFunnels

When you think about the qualities of a leader, what comes to mind first?
Leadership represents communication, management, drive, intuition, challenge and problem-solving.
There’s one main thing great leaders do and we’ve seen this throughout time. Great leaders ……?
Give up? Great leaders inspire and motivate. This is true in every type of scenario.
Politics, we see this frequently. Look at President Obama in 2008, Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders in 2016.
What about Martin King Jr. for Civil Rights or Abraham Lincoln? Even the great Mahatma Gandhi? These are 3 of the greatest leaders we’ve ever known.
While the 3 above were great leaders, we’ve also seen great leaders do bad, like Fidel Castro or Adolf Hitler. Were they great leaders? Absolutely, but due to their actions, it’s morally wrong to list them as great leaders. Leadership should be done so in a positive light, for the greater good, but all of us have our opinions.
All of these leaders do have one thing in common, they “inspired action.” That’s what great leaders do, but how can you become a great leader?
Leadership: How To Become A Great Leader
In this article, I will discuss;
- What Is Leadership
- Qualities Of A Leader
- Visionary Leadership
- Focusing On Your Company’s Strengths
- Problem Solving
- Social Excellence
- Motivating Your Team
- Focusing On What Really Matters
What Is Leadership?
Well, it depends on who you ask. Leadership means different things to different people. When you ask 100 people what leadership is, you could get 100 different answers.
For the sake of you reading, I’m going to cover leadership in different areas, but this article consist mainly of leadership in business.
To really focus on this leadership lesson, I want you to first look at the definitions of leadership.
Here you go;
“The Action Of Leading A Group Of People Or Organization”
When most of us hear “leadership,” we often relate it to this definition. Since most of my students are entrepreneurs and everyday people wanting to succeed in business, this is likely the definition that first comes to your mind also.
Qualities Of A Leader
Every successful business has good leaders or their company wouldn’t be successful. What are some of the core qualities of leadership in business?
- Social Skills – The most important quality of a leader is social skills, having the ability to encourage, inspire and motivate. But how?
- Actionable Personality – Leaders are successful when they can use their social skills to motivate what? “ACTION!”
- Management – Great leaders manage people, like a general on the battle field, the right pieces in your business must be placed correctly.
- Problem-Solving – Yes, the ability to solve problems and build strategies. A key core trait in all leadership.
- Influence – You bet, great leaders influence others around them. It makes you want to be around them.
Leadership Is Found In All Roles
It’s true, leadership can be found in all roles, all markets, all niches, A-Z. This is how I know my type of work can help everyone reading this.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a leader now, or you’re not, knowing how to become a leader that inspires action is crucial to your development. Honestly, are you best leader you can be? Can you be better? I know you can!
You can find leadership in all walks of life. It could be a political leader, a business leader, what about an athlete changing the world? While some will disagree, I believe anyone can be a leader with the right training.
Visionary leadership, so, so important in business. But why is having a vision so important?
Speaking in reference to business, a vision is much more than simply seeing the future of a business.
Setting your vision will help you create priorities, directions and workflow. It helps you set milestones, allowing you to see what is being achieved.
Focusing On Your Company’s Strengths
Great leadership knows how to focus on a company’s strengths and play off it.
Ask yourself the following questions;
- What does my company do best?
- How can we scale and monetize what works?
- What systems do you have in place now that work?
- How is our industry evolving?
One of the biggest mistakes I see companies making is focusing on too many working parts at a time.
While there’s nothing wrong with this, each department must have clear, precise direction and guidance. As a whole, your company can move ahead but only when each department is working as one unit.
For those of you that haven’t scaled your business, try focusing on one service or product at a time. If you don’t have departments in place, create them one at a time.
Problem solving, it’s the foundation of business. All customers have a problem that needs solved. I go to the gas station because I have no gas, the gas station solves my problem. I go to the car wash because I need my car cleaned, again solving a problem.
The better you understand how to solve the problems of customers, you give your business a higher
Great leaders are great problem solvers. Every business will need solutions at some point and how you deal with these scenarios can determine the success or failure of your business.
While you must stay focused on your business today, you have to look ahead, envision and plan.
There’s many ways to look ahead, market data, trends, leaders rely on data points and benchmarks. Tools and software are only as effective as the leaders using them. Invest in the right tools, without them, some jobs can’t be done.
Think of it like a mechanic. Every tool has a job, the same can be said in business. Everyone needs a defined role, defined task so your business can run efficiently.
Every leader must have social skills, one of the main characteristics of leadership today. You must be a people’s person. Great leadership starts at the relationships you build and not every relationship starts on the same level. So relationship building is crucial.
A lot of my insights come from books and personal experiences along the way. For those of you that have online businesses, building relationships is a cornerstone of any online business wanting to grow. Especially for those of you in affiliate marketing, online marketing, social media marketing and others.
Here’s some ways you can grow your social stock as a leader.
- Build genuine relationships – Very important to be genuine in all your relationships.
- Always remember first names – Remember those first names leaders, we all appreciate that.
- Be a great host – Conferences, training, mastermind groups, make sure you are the host they remember.
- Never talk bad about anyone – Sure, sometimes it can be tough to do. However, this will be a short-term and long-term benefit for you.
- Be social – Yes, common sense tip here but make sure you take advantage of every social opportunity you get.
Motivate Your Team
It’s easy to motivate your workers when things are going great, But what happens when times don’t go as planned?
As a leader, it’s your job to motivate and inspire. The moral of your business starts and ends with you.
Let’s look at a few ways you can motivate your staff.
- The power of “great job” goes a long way – We all want to be told we’re doing a great job, right? We also know when it’s sincere. When you have a team member or executive member going above and beyond, show your appreciation. Even when the impacts are small. I’ve always been respectful to my team, from the top all the way to the bottom. If you want to get the most of your team, give credit when it’s due.
- Hold a contest and reward performance – My team loves contest, yours will too. Hold a contest once a month and offer a fair reward for those that perform the best. This is a great way to spark creative thinking. You can hold contest in different departments, so you can get the whole squad involved.
- Start having creative sessions once a week – I love the idea of creative sessions I call it. This is when our team sits down to come up with new ideas. We do this once a week. Some of your greatest thinkers need this type of setting, it allows ideas to flow back and forth.
- Involve your team – Nobody wants to feel left out and unwanted. You’ll never get the best out of someone this way.
- Give out awards – This is one of my favorites. Remember when you were young and you received an award from school? Sports? Remember the way it made you feel? The same can be done now. There’s two ways to go about this, first, you can hold in-house awards. You can do monthly and yearly awards. Secondly, there’s a ton of business awards in many markets, make sure you submit your company to them. Not only can it inspire your team, it can give your business recognition.
- Take advantage of training – Training periods are always a great time to motivate and inspire. First, you should always have some sort of training for new staff. New members are usually optimistic when they first start working with a company, you can take this up a notch by letting them know performance is always rewarded. And I hope you do reward for performance
Focusing On What Real Matters
Has anyone heard of Peter Drucker? Very intelligent man. He once said, “management is doing things right, leadership is doing the right things.” How many of you are managing your team rather than leading? Read it again, management is doing things right, leadership is doing the right things.
Great leaders see the future and put their company’s vision to work.
But how do you focus on the most important things for your business? Simple, you focus on what your business MUST HAVE. Prioritize.
Every business needs a sales system in place, right? Without sales, you have no business. Every business must sell something or you won’t have a business. Period.
Every business needs channels to reach their target audience. For businesses that operate both online and offline, you have the web, search engines and social media. For brick and mortar, you have print, radio and television. Must have it. Just as you need a sales system, you need a media system also.
Yes, leadership. Leadership is priority. If you want to be “BIG,” you have to think big. You need all the qualities in this guide, you need vision, social skills, a great team and it all starts with the leader. You’ve likely heard the phrase, “you’re only as good as the people you surround yourself with.” Surround yourself with great thinkers and innovators.
All 3 of these are priority in your business. Sure, we can label money because every business needs money to invest and operate. We can mention having a “A-Team” working behind you because that’s important. All of these have a rightful place in conversation. But when I have to label the top 3 priorities for any business to focus on, sales systems, media and leadership is my top choices.
For those of you that are looking to take your leadership to the next level, do as I do. Learn from the best leaders the world has seen, leaders in business, leaders in politics, religion, what ever leadership meets your goals. Learn, read books, it will help you fine tune your leadership skills.
One of the key core factors that I’ve found over the years to be true is the importance of consistency. Be consistent across the board. This helps you build structure throughout your business.
Influence, such a powerful word and a must-have quality for anyone in business. Say it again…. INFLUENCE. Yeah, it’s that important.
Influence defines those who are leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs.
For all of you that want to be stronger leaders, have a stronger message, have a bigger following, being an influencer is the critical core principle.
Why is winning friends and the ability to influence people important? I’m sure you have an idea, but I want you to think about it for a moment….
Some of you, this isn’t your first rodeo. You know friends are important, you know partnerships are important. And if you don’t, influence is the most powerful, most needed quality of all.
Why? Because nobody in business or anywhere else can grow, succeed and prosper without friends. Don’t be a greedy ass, you can’t do it on your own. Eventually, your solo ride with level off and you’ll be stuck.
John Corcoran is one of the best influencers in the world. Not sure if you’ve heard of him, but you can learn A LOT from his content. Extreme value.
John worked at the White House at the tender age of 23! But he’s amazingly smart, I wouldn’t mention him if I didn’t know he can help you be a Master Influencer.
Check out what he has to say about Influence.
Influence: How To Influence Friends And Everyone Else
In this guide, I’m going to cover;
- What Influence Really Means
- The Great Dale Carnegie
- How Influence Can Grow Your Business
- How To Make More Friends
- How To Treat People
- The Importance Of Being Genuine
- Be Yourself
What Influence Really Means
To really understand the true meaning of influence, I want you to look at the definition.
- “Have an influence on”
- “The capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something, or the effect itself.”
Interesting, right? And here’s where I wanted to get through to you.
The capacity to have an effect on the character, development or behavior of someone or something. Keywords, “something” or “something.”
Influence is not just about influencing someone, influencing a person, customer, partner, friend, whomever. But it also refers to influencing “something.”
What else can influence?
You can influence anything, deals, contracts, negotiations, rules, guidelines, everything else you can think of.
Who can I influence?
Anyone. But you DO NOT control them. Don’t think that you do, don’t think that you can.
Why should I influence?
To get what you want. However, there’s right ways to do this and there’s a lot of wrong ways. So pay close attention.
Sounds like a familiar name. I’m a firm believer in “The more you learn, the more you earn” philosophy. I know it to be extremely accurate.
Dale Carnegie is a house-hold name and rightfully so. His book “How To Win Friends And Influence People” is pure genius and a must-have in your collection.
A lot of the training material written for influence courses is based on his principles and while things have changed since he wrote it, the visionary that he is still remains to be true. So don’t worry about that, I would recommend it if it didn’t help.
How Influence Can Grow Your Business
There’s many ways you can use influence to make friends and grow your business.
Know What People Need
One great way to influence people in business is by knowing exactly what they need.
Remember, in business, you have to give to receive. The same can be said about life. It’s true when they say you “get back what you put in.”
If you can help people accomplish task or goals, they remember that. Think about it, has anyone went out of their way to help your business? Do you remember that person?
In business, life and at home, your relationships need to be genuine. Can relationships be genuine in business? Absolutely. It must. So take that to heart.
Here’s the thing about making friends in business, everything you do will not have an instant effect on your business. When you’re just beginning to build relationships, it’s not about you, it’s about them and there’s a reason for that.
If you need someone to invest in your business, what are your chances of asking someone you don’t have personally know for that loan? Likely slim. We all want to do business with people we know.
I know what you’re thinking, if the numbers are right, you can get it. But that’s not my point here, my point is the “relationship” itself. If you would have a personal relationship with this investor, your odds would be naturally higher. If you’ve helped this investor in the past, he/she could be willing to pay it forward. This is how business relationships work and just one way making friends can help your business.
Richard’s Tip: Very important to know what people want, know the main thing they need. In the same process, make sure they know exactly what you need.
Connecting With Those Who Influence
How about making friends with those who have a lot of friends? Pure value, but it can be tough to get direct access to the world’s best influencers. So what can be done?
The good news, those who influence on the world stage are usually the ones speaking at events, conferences and seminars. Online influencers often have social media, blogs and podcast. So there’s many ways that you can target thought leaders in your industry.
Here’s a few ways you can start targeting influencers in your industry.
- Follow them on social media.
- Attend one of their events, seminars or conferences.
- Attend a conference they will attend.
- Try to connect with them on LinkedIn (Nearly every professional business guru has a LinkedIn account).
- Mention them in an article, video, podcast or other content.
- Share their work on your channels
- Tell them they’re GREAT! (Wait, I explain below)
DO NOT come out of the woodwork asking for favors, it won’t work. You’ll ruin the relationship and it’ll cause you take steps back, we don’t want that. Instead, focus on nurturing the relationship despite how far away it appears.
I know I highly respect my mentors, my mastermind group, my coaches, everyone that has helped me to where I am today. Both of us can agree we owe thanks to many people.
For myself, nothing is more rewarding then being “thanked.” Am I right? it’s humbling, it’s fulfilling, it’s appreciated. Here’s a snippet from one of my newest students Chris Mitchell. Chris was working the midnight shift, sweating in the summer, freezing in the winter cutting wood panels over and over again. He was struggling in life and at home.
“Hey Richard. I never expected my life to change this much. I still can’t believe I’m a business owner I know your busy but I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for being there to teach me what I know. It’s funny because I paid you with my entire savings and I must admit now, I saw scared as hell. I’ve done made it all back and a lot more. This is insane for me, I still feel like I’m dreaming. The only regret I have now is not coming to you sooner! LOL. I owe you, you’re the man!!!”
First, this is why I do what I do. I’m on the other side learning everything that works, I’m working 16 hours a day building resources, learning, all so I can share them with my students, my readers. If you received this email, what would you think? How do you feel when you get these types of emails?
Everyone wants to be told “good job.” Remember that.
Richard’s Tip: There’s always great content out there, you just have to work through all the B.S. I do this by reading about those who have been successful, those who know what’s going on. Every industry has them. Go out there and learn my friend, give them their “due.” Let them know how their video helped you, how their training course helped you, we appreciate shit like that. Truly. I say this all the time about Tai, I love his thirst for more knowledge because that’s what it takes. You better know more than the person beside you. We all have influencers that has guided us here today, right here this very minute. Take today and start nurturing those relationships, grow them, be genuine, that’s what it takes.
How To Make More Friends
How can we make more friends? I know…I know… FACEBOOK!
HA! I’m not going to shoot that one down because that’s legit. But let’s forget about Facebook for the moment. (I’ll cover social media in a second)
What do you do to make new friends?
- Host an event
- Awesome content
- Conferences, Seminars
- Social media
- Video channels, Webinar I’ll include also.
- Email, List building
- Groups (Social Media, Online)
- Local events
- What about “giving someone what they need?”
Think about number 11 for a moment. “Giving people what they need.” Makes a lot of sense, right?
What do we do in business? We give them what they need! If I want a new shirt, the store gives me what I need. If I need a new car, the auto store gives me what I need.
How does this connect with making new friends? It goes back to the concept above, “Know what people want.”
When you know what people want, you can get what you want. It’s the foundation of building relationships in business.
How You Treat People
We’ve all heard it said time and time again, likely first from your parents.
“Treat others the way you want to be treated.” Common sense, the staple of ethics, religious significance.
Should you treat others as you want to be treated? NO. You treat others BETTER than you would treat yourself and make it a habit.
That’s how you make friends. Nobody wants to be friends with a selfish asshole. Point blank.
Now, I’m not telling you to kiss ass. I wouldn’t word it like that, I prefer “making a difference.” Here’s some other ways to start building personal relationships in business.
- Give a call to your client just to let them know you’re thinking about them. No motive here.
- Offer a potential client a free service or free trial to your product.
- If you know what someone wants, help them get it for free.
- Ask someone if they need a free consult or help with a client.
- Offer a helping hand to your team or the office.
- Donate some time to help someone with their business.
- Send someone a “thank you” letter or email for being a help to you.
- Mention someone on social media and how they influenced you.
- Participate in mastermind groups, business groups and forums to offer your experience for free.
- Pay someone a tip or bonus for going the extra mile.
- And the list goes on and on.
The Importance Of Being Genuine And Ethical
You can’t overplay this last section. There’s no room for non-genuine relationships in your life. This is dirty business and I refuse to take part, I hope you’ll do the same.
To be a great friend, you have to be genuine about the people you will be associated with. Don’t take advantage of others just to get ahead. If you learn anything today from reading, let it be this.
Be genuine in all you do. I sincerely enjoy meeting new people, I feel you can too. Together, we can make a difference, you can’t do it alone. Trust me, WE ALL NEED FRIENDS.
Influence your friends to be great, show them the importance of being social and making friends. All coaches and mentors take notice, influence them to be great social leaders.
How many of us try to be someone we’re not?
I don’t mean that in a bad way, but we tend to lose what makes us unique when trying to become an influencer.
You’re special, you’re unique and you can influence by being yourself.
Don’t only do it for those you influence, but do it for yourself.
